My social justice work as an eco-feminist artist began with NEST 89'. This tribute to the homeless women and children who resided at the YMCA in downtown Jacksonville,FL was the first community public art of it's kind in Northeast Florida. Since then, I have continued to engage all ages in exploring and healing our sense place. What does it mean to feel at home ? How can i make you feel welcome ? What can we honor as sacred space together ? I have grappled with these questions through my art in a myriad of ways. One way is through creating healing environments, another is by helping people who are often not seen be seen. Recently, I am most often acting in the role of translator and guide within the wild places of North Florida as an environmental educator. Navigating my own interior spaces has helped me understand the ways we distance ourselves from the Otherness of the natural world and fellow human beings. We are at a threshold and it is high time to make peace with Mother Earth and all of her wonder, humans included.
